Gutter Cleaning Safety

A video demonstrating installation of a T-Bar roof anchor for metal roofing.

Video Transcript:

Hello, I’m Grayson, a gutter cleaner from Melbourne in Australia.

In this video, I’ll demonstrate how to properly anchor to a flat metal roof, using a piece of safety equipment known as a T-Bar.

Now I’m on the roof, and I’m safely tied to another anchor point we prepared earlier.

This is my orange-coloured T-Bar. I also have a lighter weight T-Bar, which you can see here.

Both these T-Bars are made in Australia, and they’re very high quality.

Now today, I’ll be using my orange T-Bar. I put the T-Bar in the gutter, pull it back, and tighten these bolts. Now, with the bolts tight, the T-Bar is completely locked in position.

Now with my T-Bar safely secured, I attach my carabiner and rope, and I move away from the edge.

With my T-Bar in this position, I’ve now completely setup to work on the opposite side of the roof — the T-Bar is only useful to secure someone that is working on the opposite side of the roof to where the T-Bar is positioned in the gutter.

Roof gutter cleaning can be the most dangerous job around the home and many people hurt themselves trying to clean their gutters. Before cleaning gutters, you should ensure that the person doing the job is properly equipped and trained. If you hire a professional to do the job, you might want to ask if they are fully-insured and OHS-compliant. Australian safety laws are very complex in roof work.

Thank you for watching, and stay tuned because we have more videos coming!
