Grayson’s has been in the window cleaning game since December 2001, we were already well established when the concept of modern water-fed pole technology first landed in Australia. Solar Panel Cleaning is something that we naturally added to our list of difficult-access cleaning services.
Because most privately owned solar panels in metro Melbourne and Victoria are on roofs, we are in contact with solar panels every single day that we clean gutters.

In about 2007, the concept of waterfed-pole technology was introduced into the Australian Window Cleaning industry. It instantly became obvious that this method of cleaning glass using purified water would also be beneficial for Solar Panel Cleaning.
Purified water contains absolutely zero minerals (dirt), so it dries clear and streak free, meaning that we don’t need to use our squeegees to wipe off the solar panels or glass windows. Purified water is a more powerful cleaning tool because it absorbs more dirt than normal tap water can.
Waterfed pole cleaning is now a well-honed concept that has greatly evolved to what it is now. Grayson’s uses state-of-the-art waterfed pole cleaning tools!
When you mix dirt into tap water, the water has a limited capacity to hold and dissolve dirt particles due to the presence of minerals and impurities already in the water. These impurities mean the water has reduced capacity to dissolve additional substances.
In contrast, purified water is mechanically filtered to have impurities removed, so it has a higher capacity to dissolve and hold onto dirt particles. This makes it a more effective cleaning agent, because it can absorb more dirt from the surface of the solar panels, leaving them cleaner and streak-free!
In order to keep your solar panels sparkling clean and operating at maximum capacity, we recommend scheduling a professional solar panel clean every 3-6 months.
Most residential and commercial solar panels will have some mould and lichen growth. If your solar panels have been neglected for many years this lichen build up may be excessive.
Wherever possible we will avoid using detergents or abrasive tools to clean panels, but for extreme build up of lichen it may be necessary to use detergents and tools such as a gentle scraper to dislodge the lichen.
*Please check with the manufacturer of your solar panels regarding what systems they recommend for cleaning of solar panels.
